wood pellet mill

Wood pellet mill operate through a process of utilizing wood pulp to create compressed, solid wooden pellets for usage in residential, commercial or industrial purposes and have increased both in number and in production capability significantly over the past few years. This has been due primarily to the increase in conventional fuel costs creating an increase in consumer interest as well as implementation of newer procedures for production, harvesting and processing that have enabled greater pellet production than seen prior to the year 2000.

Wood pellet mill operate by compressing wood material (from any number of wood sources, though typically farmed trees specifically grown for wood usage) that fist passes through a hammer mill to create an evenly uniform, soft, dough-like substance out of the initial fibers in order to evenly distribute the wood mass throughout the creation process. This substance is then forcibly fed through a die containing small holes generally 6 to 8mm in diameter. By doing so the mass naturally compresses into a small size, becoming heated by the pressure generally without needing any external heating element whatsoever. This heat production, as it increases, allows the naturallignin present within the wood to become liquidized and plastify slightly, thus allowing the wood to naturally maintain a set uniform size when it exits the die hole as if a glue were applied.

With the new decade beginning more and more home owners looking for alternative heating sources for their homes wood pellets are becoming a major focus for many industrial developments, with mill creating looking at being expanded to a number of new areas in order to help meet the current and future consumer needs. This industry is expected to expand substantially in the coming years in particular as fossil fuel becomes more scarce and costs increase, forcing many consumers that have been reluctant to change in the past over to wood pellet usage. As this occurs look for much higher dependence upon wood pellet mill production, particularly in Europe.
